There Is a Rage

Image result for abstract art rage

There is a rage
in the autumn air
born out of injustice
as much as of fear
the truth will out

The truth`tellers
far too long silent
stifled by dark shame
are naming names
of their abusers

with privilege hide
under the white`sheets
and conduct`codes
of old fraternity

Behold the flames
of the zillion candles
lit in the October night
each offering witness
to our inhumanity

“The fears of one class of men are not
the measure of the rights of another.” ~ George Bancroft

Artwork by Willem de Kooning

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
