A Boy Named Jesus

The mother
was prepared
for the suffering
understanding well
the lesson the crucifix
teaches without a word
the cost of liberty is love
and love was all she had`
left of her spent dowry
love for the small boy
named for a Savior
guards took Jesus
it’s for his best
so they said

“No one perhaps could understand
who has not been as lost as I was,
nor as far from others as I felt,
a heap of coal in the night.” ~ Pablo Neruda

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
