The Fifth Oasis

Mount Girls Mural

It is the road
takes down barriers
breaks down divisions
fills valleys levels mountains
those who live the road
learn to live together
or quit the way

It is the sabbath
wakens the servant
within the proud spirit
in resting we learn to receive
waiting we learn to give
mercy for weakness
grace to strength

“Sister, let me be your servant.
Let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant, too.” ~ Richard Gillard

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
