The Fourth Oasis

Around the fire
at sabbath’s even`tide
as bats flutter over`head
it is as if the spirits of children
inhabit emerging fire`flies
as if to say we’re here
among you still

We live forever
within your memories
love now in your mercies
grieve for now with your tears
laugh now in your delight
as you live within us
so we live in you

“I will weep when you are weeping.
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through.” ~ Richard Gillard

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
