Sabbath Rest

Wassily Kandinsky

We spend
most of our lives
either coming or going
The moments in between
either packing or unpacking
eating sleeping or dressing
Minds busily preparing
for uncontrollable

suggests we need
a rest from all our doing
time to process our going
or we soon lose our bearing
forgetting that it is loving
makes time worth saving
making our home

“There is a day
when the road neither
comes nor goes, and the way
is not a way but a place.” ~ Wendell Berry

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
