In the DNA

Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso

Don’t know about you
but I don’t want to know
the peculiar makeup of my DNA
Some ignorance is bliss Knowing
a thing before its time is
fruitless to the ingenue

Corruption is systemic
whether in the individual
or in the Body Politic Politicians
come as bent as their electorates
without the Confessional
to amend for their sins

Call special prosecutors
to uncover all their crimes
Impeach all those who are guilty
of the frauds within their nature
Yet a new generation rises
from corruption’s womb

“A Government is just as secret and mysterious
and sensitive as any human sinner carrying
a load of germs, traditions, and corpuscles
handed down from fathers and mothers away back.” ~ Carl Sandburg

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
