Blood & Bones

Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock

Of the people
politicians emerge
gifted individuals with
eyes upon their community
ears open to their needs
clear consciences
adept minds

By the people
they are selected
to tackle the challenges
facing cities states & nations
in collaboration with
other colleagues
of the land

For the people
they are to govern
guided by a constitution
crafted by ingenious wisdom
of the founding fathers
in laws to live by
justly & freely

Politicians come
to the government
as the people’s servants
until they leave government
as corporation lobbyists
Wall Street shills
bought paid for

“Everywhere I saw that Government is a thing
made of men, that Government has blood and bones,
it is many mouths whispering into many ears,
sending telegrams, aiming rifles, writing orders,
saying ‘yes’ and ‘no.'” ~ Carl Sandburg, ‘Government’

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
