I’m the weather
   She’s the wheel
Sunrise to Sunrise
she keeps on aturnin’
Sunrise to Sunrise
   I am the storm
simply achurnin’

She manages all
   o’what we’ve got
Runs the numbers
keep the boat afloatin’
I manage a Whaler
   Catch fish  Keep
smoker smoakin’

Fifty years now
   we been hitched
A horse to the plow
She does the furrowin’
if I’ll do the pullin’
   Cart’s full of all
two be aneedin’

“If they had more they would need less.
A proposal from the squinting logician.
Seems we are legal, seems we are ill.
Ponderous purpose, are you weather,
are you wheel?”
~ Karen Volkman

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!

  1. I guess I’m a weathered wheel. Love the expressions in this.

  2. may God continue to bless you both
