On the Truth

“Lord, be my judge! I go on my way in innocence.
My trust is the Lord who never wavers.
Probe me, Lord, examine me. Test my heart and my mind in the fire.
For your faithful love is before my eyes,
and I live my life by your truth.”
                                                                                                 ~ Psalm 26:1-2 [JB]

When the lie
becomes the truth
then the truth is but a lie
and the truth`teller
is but the liar

A healthy liar
is ashamed of lies
when truth comes to light
A pathological liar
will lie harder

The only light
justifying the liar
is the bravado of his halo
The light of truth
is not in him

When justice
is in a liar’s hands
those called to exercise it
are parties to lies
Become liars

If we’re silent
in the face of liars
their lies will be our truth
Before we know it
we’re liars too

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
