“When I look at your heavens
   the work of your fingers,
      the moon and the stars
         that you have established,
What are human beings that you
   are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them?” ~ Psalm 8:3-4

People`watching
is better than going to a movie
At the mall or out on Broadway
flows a parade of people each
one an individual

She a film star
judging by her expensive dress
He a Madison Avenue executive
on his way to the cocktail party
Such attitudes!

He the athlete
in his designer running outfit
She the Wall Street stock`broker
wool`suited an attache in hand
Oozing success!

From curb`side
we watch as they stream past
each projecting some brilliance
finer than that of the former
as if competing

The bum & I
sitting on the bus`stop bench
linger thru dusk for dark to see
planets emerge over the river
What a God!

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
