“O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me.
Many are saying to me,
‘There is no help for you in God.’” ~ Psalm 3:1

Where is the wisdom
that should lie in numbers?
The leaders of the leaders all lie
while the followers follow
Lemmings over a cliff

The one hearing the lie
mindlessly races to repeat it
And soon there is no more truth
merely your opinion & mine
The science is for sale

Global warming is a lie!
Never mind shrinking ice caps
Never mind rising level of the sea
Never mind the scorched earth
BP says it’s inconvenient!

Homelessness is a scam!
Lazy people seeking hand`outs
Welfare moms raiding food`banks
Street junkies hustling cocaine
The mayor says Not Here!

And then of course the guns
Guns don’t kill people people do!
With glib twists of words lies go on
become the norm shape the truth
till bit by bit our soul is gone

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!

  1. You’re most welcome, Cheryl. I think you won’t be offended if I go into my admin site and delete the lengthy conversations of this morning as they ended up as political debate rather than poetic commentary . . . Always look forward to chatting with you . . .
