Lantern to Hand

Have you lit
a candle in the window
in the hope of warding`off
the insidious darkness
of the night?

If not just for
the stranger in the lane
then certainly for your self
which tho safely within
has far to go

Don the cape!
Take a lantern to hand!
Step out into the bleak dark!
Each step will bring you
closer to dawn

“We can be reconciled to life
in its severest aspects
if we are confident
that the disasters
are not meaningless,
and that the valley
can be made a place of springs.” ~ Charles Allen Dinsmore

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
