On Creativity

What is true learning
but the firing of kindling
A match set to the arid brush
of what we call education
Facts without fiction

The theory of flight
taught in flight`school is
a far cry from the art of flying
A man A machine soaring
soaring into sunset

Exhilarated Afraid
a pilot turns into phoenix
freed from the laws of gravity
be it for but the moments
his fuel & fees allow

Creativity is found
not in keeping to the rules
against which we’re all tested
Beyond the rule is freedom
either to fly or to fall

“It is above all by the imagination that we achieve
perception and compassion and hope.” ~ Ursula Le Guin

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
