My
oh my
it is a day
for flying kites
a brisk winter day
the last day of the year
we’ll put the kites up in series
each one connected to the other
red blue green yellow purple black
forest cranberry peach lime plum orange
a long chain of twelve kites strung
together on lines strong as love
each the journal of a month
together the tail of a year
for others a rainbow
wild dancing color
words gone wild
soaring at last
in clear air
crystal
light

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
