Waiting for the Bus

At the corner
of Here St & Now
I find myself waiting
for a bus that isn’t coming
Five years is a long time to wait
The schedule says ‘Anytime’
but nowadays nothing
seems to be working
by a calendar

My appointment
for a consultation
at the Drop-In Clinic
says ‘At Your Convenience’
so I don’t think I have missed it
Although ‘Stop at the Lab’
has me a little anxious
bodily fluids being
what they are

Maybe I’ll walk
It’s just two miles
and it’s all down hill
Of course it’s up hill back
so I guess I’ll just go on waiting
for a bus that isn’t coming
to this corner bench
at Here St & Now
for tomorrow

Long to be known, and know.” ~ Robyn Sarah

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
