Before the Word
there is the Thought
and before the Thought
there emerges the Image
out from the Emotion
the Spirit of a Being
touched by Life

Touched by Pain
one’s Spirit recoils
withdraws into Self
to soothe the Wound
in Silence’s Solace
where no Words
bring Healing

Touched by Love
one’s Spirit unfolds
a Sunflower’s petals
opening to the Light
beauty Wonderful
where no Words
are Necessary

“Love will heal what language fails to know” ~ Eavan Boland

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
