Rhapsody in Blue

Before we can hear the music
we have to learn to listen
Before we can grasp the times
we have to learn to think
Before we can feel inspiration
      we have to learn repetition
Before we can hear the music

There is melody in cacophony
if we are willing to listen
There is truth within the Babel
if we can master the cant
There is even order in anarchy
             if we will simply engage
There is melody in cacophony

The time is up for simpletons
who see but black or white
The clock has run out on fools
  who speak only to themselves
The sun has set upon the lands
    which yet believe in borders
The time is up for simpletons

“True music must repeat the thought & inspirations
of the people & the time.” ~ George Gershwin

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!

wish I knew how you did this every day – my poetry has been hiding somehow…
