It is the light
reflecting off life
allows us to see things
our eyes gifted as they are
in capturing reflections
to feed our brains
ciphered data

It is the brain
knows how to read
the highly nuanced code
updating its operating system
each night as we sleep so
that in the morning
images remain

By remembering
I am able to recognize
to differentiate reflections
of men trees mountains seas
Since I can remember you
I will also recognize you
as one day you’ll be

All of which goes to say
You do look lovely today!

“Life must be understood backwards
but it must be lived forwards.” ~ Søren Kierkegaard

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!
