Dance of the Elements

Dance of the Elements

Between our

going & staying

might we yet discover

a mercy waiting

in just being

What cost

in the waiting?

This time for a breath

before plunging

into death

You say

It’s reasonable!

In which lies patience

more than hope

Your gift!

Yet between

now & tomorrow

lies an ocean of possibility

beyond capacity

to predict

God’s grace

if it is anything

is time’s unconditional gift

for our turning

in the dance

About Peter Notehelfer

I'm a retired people person who now finds the time to watch the little details of the world without worrying about being watched by anyone . . . I live on an Island north of Seattle with my wife named Ellen, a yellow dog named McGee, a yellow cat named Gatzby, and four fine chickens . . . I read fiction, bake bread, smoke salmon, and fish whenever the weather allows . . . Oh, and yes, I try to write a poem every day simply to avoid senility!

  1. Another good reminder to just “be”. Inspiration overflows, Peter :)

  2. “Our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance.” – Garth Brooks
